Super slo-mo skate video

The closest I’ve ever been to a skateboard is playing Tony Hawk, but I could watch super slomo footage like this all day.

There are already a few consumer cameras out there that have offer high frame-rates for a ‘super slomo’ effect, but I think we’ll really see it become popular once high-fps shooting becomes the next ‘must have’ feature on smartphones  in the not-too-distant future.

From the Earth to the Moon

The Apollo missions fascinated me as a kid and so when I recently came across this HBO mini-series on Amazon, I immediately ordered a copy. I’m on the second of five DVDs and am loving it so far.

Definite recommendation for all of you space-geeks out there.Find the box set on Amazon

Photo site: 500px.com

500px is a gorgeous-looking site for photographers to present and offer their shots to the world.

It has some interesting layouts, including “stories”, that allow you to connect multiple photos in order to describe experiences, rather than just presenting static images.

Check it out.

Film review: Away we go

A fairly mellow film with enough smiles to win you over. I enjoyed this one, might appeal mainly to late 20s-early 30s though…

Watch products go to market on Kickstarter

As product manager a equinux, my favourite part of any product launch is the final stretch just before you release a product to the general public.

At Kickstarter, entrepreneurs can pitch product idea to potential customers before it has even been produced. As a backer, you usually get early access to the product and get to watch a product being launched to a wider audience.
A word of warning: this isn’t the site for instant gratification, as it can often take several months before you have the finished product in your hands. But there are some really great ideas to be found and usually product developers are very forthcoming with regular updates.
So far I’ve backed the Glif, Cosmonaut and Hidden Speaker on Kickstarter and have been really impressed – take a look.

Foto-Bundesliga: Photo competitions

Another photography website by another good friend of mine, Foto-Bundesliga is a german photography competition website.

Photographers can submit their best pictures for several different ‘leagues’, each with its own theme or genre.
You can see some of my attempts on the site and I find having a place to get your shots critiqued and compared is a great way to improve and think differently about photography!

Hilarious and a great example of how you can turn a boring “app introduction” video into something people will want to watch.

Album tip: The head and the heart

Saw them recently as the warmup act for Death Cab to Cutie – not a blow-away-amazing album, but pretty solid! They have a few tracks on their website, or you can find it on iTunes.
